ALP leader Annastacia Palaszczuk has been confirmed as Queensland’s new Premier after meeting with Governor Paul de Jersey this afternoon.

She told waiting media outside Government House in Brisbane that the Governor had invited her to form office and she had accepted.

An interim ministry will be sworn in tomorrow.

The Electoral Commission of Queensland declared the results of the last seat at 2:15pm.

As expected, the ALP finished with 44 seats and the LNP with 42.

Labor was able to form a minority government with the support of independent Peter Wellington.

LNP leader Lawrence Springborg, who also met with the Governor this afternoon, is expected to make an announcement at 5:30pm.

UPDATE: Mr Springborg congratulated Ms Palaszczuk and said the election had proven Queensland had a strong, functioning democracy.
