South Burnett Directions – the economic think tank charged with overseeing economic development in the region – is exploring ways to expand local health services.

Cancer treatments are one of the ideas being discussed.

“We had a presentation from the Health Working Group in regards to pursuing the possibility of setting up new cancer services at the South Burnett Private Hospital,” South Burnett Mayor and South Burnett Directions chairman Wayne Kratzmann said.

“This will be referred to Queensland Health for their input.

“To be able to provide chemotherapy services for cancer patients locally is a much-needed service for members of our community having to deal with this disease.

“This project is just the beginning of the health services we are discussing.

“South Burnett Directions will also explore new tele-health services and develop a model that supports the potential of a co-located Public and Private Hospital.”
