Chantal Harth  … working full-time at CROW-FM in Wondai

August 4, 2013

Congratulations to the two South Burnett winners announced on Saturday night in Toowoomba at the regional finals of the Queensland Training Awards.

CROW-FM’s Chantal Harth took out the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year category; and Murray Shelton, from the Southern Queensland Institute of TAFE at Kingaroy, was named the VET Teacher or Trainer of the Year.

Chantal, from Murgon, studied a Certificate III in Business with the Southern Queensland Institute of TAFE and started working at CROW-FM as an indigenous trainee in 2012, but took over the administration, sales and promotion role full-time last October.

Murray teaches concreting, carpentry and construction at the Kingaroy TAFE.

Education Minister John-Paul Langbroek presented the awards and congratulated the local winners who will now go on to vie for the State awards.

“The Queensland Training Awards have a long-standing tradition of recognising the best vocational education and training achievements across the State’s seven regions, culminating in a state final,” Mr Langbroek said.

“The Darling Downs South West region, geographically bigger than Victoria and covering 11 shire and regional council areas, has more than 8000 apprentices and trainees.

“More than 600 entries were received in this year’s contest statewide”

Winners of the State awards will be announced in Brisbane on Friday, September 13.

The Queensland Training Awards are run by the Department of Education, Training and Employment.
