New Year's Day
Today is New Years Day, a public holiday. Most South Burnett businesses will either be closed today or operating on restricted hours. Today also marks the start of the United Nations' International Year of Light and the International Year of Soils (ie two separate things); the second month of summer in the southern hemisphere; the start of the South Burnett's 2014-15 vintage which will begin a little later this month when the first white grapes are harvested; and the final weeks of the summer school vacation (classes will resume on Tuesday, January 27). South Burnett Online will resume normal broadcasting on Monday, January 19. We wish all our readers a very Happy New Year!
New Year's Day Carnival - Yarraman
The Yarraman Progress Association will be holding a New Year’s Day Carnival at Errol Munt Park on the New England Highway just west of Yarraman's CBD from 4:00pm to 10:00pm today. The Carnival is a replacement for the town's 2014 Christmas Carnival - which had to be cancelled at short notice due to wet weather - and will feature most of the Christmas Carnival's attractions (except Santa). These include food and drink stands, market stalls, live entertainment and a great fireworks display at around 8:00pm. Admission is free and everyone is welcome!
NRA Junior Rodeo - Goomeri
The Goomeri and District Show Society will be holding an NRA Junior Affiliated Rodeo at the Goomeri Showgrounds from 8:00am this morning. More details? Phone (07) 4168-4177.
Alcoholics Anonymous - Kingaroy
Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other to help solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for A.A. membership. A.A. isn't allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution. AA meets in Kingaroy every Thursday from 7:30pm at the "Biscuit Tin", behind St Mary's Church Hall, 15 Albert Street, Kingaroy. For more information, phone (07) 4162-5747.
