NRL Hall of Famer Cliff Lyons waves to the crowd ahead of the International Legends of League game

February 28, 2025

A large crowd gathered at T.J. O’Neill Oval in Kingaroy on Saturday for a family day of rugby league topped off by the craziness of the International Legends Of League.

The legends are all former top-level NRL and ARL players, although some haven’t taken to the paddock in earnest for decades.

They took on the Kingaroy Red Ants All-Stars (a mixed bunch of former players, sponsors and other ring-ins) in a close “game” where the score was always in doubt … especially when ball boys were called on to kick conversions!

The Legends technically took home the win 24-20.

It was also a big day for the Dugdell family … Tony put the first points on the board in the Legends game, scoring a try for the All-Stars which he then promptly converted.

Late in the game, young Oliver Dugdell, 6, tore down the sideline to put on more points for the All-Stars.

Earlier in the day, Kingaroy U12s and U8s were in action, as well as friendly senior games between Kingaroy and Dalby, and Cherbourg and Oakey.
