Social media posts which suggested a possible breakthrough in the search for missing man Jack McLennan have been refuted by police.
A recent post claimed a mobile phone belonging to Jack had been located.
However, a police spokesperson said on Tuesday a mobile phone found near Ficks Crossing Road was not linked to Jack.
The phone was located on October 26.
Jack, 27, went missing from the Ficks Crossing area on the evening of October 9.
The initial official search was scaled back on the weekend of October 19-20 but was revived briefly in November after a wallet and bank card belonging to Jack were found.
Family members and friends have continued to scour the area for any signs of the missing man and have advertised a $5000 cash reward for information about his whereabouts.
