FLASHBACK: The first wind turbine blade arrives for the Coopers Gap Wind Farm project in 2018

September 19, 2024

The first regular deliveries of large turbine components for the Wambo Wind Farm project, south-west of Kingaroy, are expected to start next month.

Test runs are scheduled to take place overnight on September 30-October 1 and October 1-2.

If these go smoothly, regular deliveries are expected to begin soon afterwards from the Port of Brisbane.

A spokesperson for the project developers, Stanwell and Cubico, said the transport vehicles were expected to travel through the Jimbour, Jandowae and Diamondy areas between 5:00am and 6:30am.

Nearby roads have been undergoing upgrades to handle the loads.

The Wambo Wind Farm is being built in two stages, and will eventually comprise 83 wind turbines and generate more than 500MW of power.

People interested in viewing a massive wind farm turbine blade up close should take a look at the Western Downs’ latest (and somewhat controversial) tourist attraction.

A 67m long blade, donated by the nearby Coopers Gap Wind Farm, was erected by the Western Downs Regional Council earlier this year on land between the Railway Shed and McPhee Street in Bell.

Although some residents praised the new attraction, it has also received scathing criticism from others on social media community pages.
