The efforts of Nanango’s Dearne Acland have been recognised at a national level with her business, Hen Pen Australia, taking out a major award.

Dearne was presented with a trophy for Hen Pen winning the “Women’s Organisation” category at the 2023 Australian Women’s Small Business Champion Awards at the weekend.

The gala awards event was held at the Western Sydney Conference Centre on Saturday.

Dearne accepted the trophy on stage before almost 1000 attendees.

Hen Pen’s mission is to encourage, empower and build self-esteem among its growing number of women members.

It connects women and offers activities focussed on teaching useful skills … everything from tyre maintenance and using power tools safely to clay shooting.

“This award showcases every woman who has become involved in Hen Pen, and it shines a light on the South Burnett and Townsville area for supporting women in business,” Dearne said.

Precedent Productions have been running the Australian Small Business Champion Awards since 1999.

Thousands of businesses entered this year which were whittled down to finalists in 65 categories from a broad cross-section of industries.
