The SBRCs 2021-22 Annual Report has been released

October 31, 2022

South Burnett Regional Council has released its latest annual report after voting to do so at last week’s Ordinary Meeting.

By law, all Queensland councils are obliged to produce an Annual Report shortly after the end of each financial year.

The report is then vetted by the Department of Local Government and Planning to ensure it complies with State guidelines.

After this, the Department’s approval to release the Annual Report is usually given in late October or early November.

The report covers the Council’s major achievements in 2021-22 and reports how well – or otherwise – it is meeting performance targets and long-term goals.

It also provides financial data that outlines where the Council’s money came from and how it was spent.

During 2021-2022, the Council says its main achievements were:

  • Continuing to reduce its debt (now $30,422,786) while maintaining a strong cash position ($62,369,259 at the end of June 2022)
  • Responding promptly to five flooding and natural disaster events that occurred during the reporting period
  • Continuing to work on the goals set out in its five-year Corporate Plan
  • Development of a new organisational structure to align with the Corporate Plan
  • Ongoing investment in road maintenance and upgrades
  • Continuing work to ensure future water security for the region’s residents and businesses
  • Progression of several major construction projects (Kingaroy Transformation Project, Wondai Industrial Estate, Kumbia Streetscape et al)

At the end of June 2022, the Council’s total asset base was estimated to be $1.05 billion and its liabilities were $67.6 million, leaving a total community equity of $937 million.

Hard copies of the Annual Report are available for viewing at Council’s Customer Service Centres and local libraries, and can be purchased for a fee.

A free PDF copy of the 2021-22 Annual Report is also available on the Council’s website
