Ringsfield House took its first step towards reactivation as a Nanango community hub on Wednesday when the South Burnett Regional Council appointed three people to its new Ringsfield House Advisory Committee (RHAC).

Councillors were told Simone Kucyk has been appointed as Booking and Events Co-Ordinator; Sue Wallis as Volunteers Manager; and Rebecca Bayntun as Museum Curator.

SBRC CEO Mark Pitt, Liveability General Manager Peter O’May and Council’s Manager of Community and Lifestyle Jennifer Pointon have also been appointed to the committee as ex-officio members.

However, three other committee positions – a garden adviser, a marketing and tourism adviser, and a social service/community development adviser – remain vacant.

The appointments follow the Council’s call for expressions of interest in the volunteer committee positions in August.

The SBRC made the decision to set up the RHAC in March after carrying out a study of how similar Council-owned community facilities in neighbouring shires were managed.

The study recommended setting up an Advisory Committee to create a mechanism that would allow the community to provide recommendations to Council on the future direction of Ringsfield House, which has been closed for almost two years.

The committee’s key performance indicators will be to develop a strategic plan and a business plan for the historic property, as well as promote community patronage.

Cr Jane Erkens said a meeting to explain the role of the advisory committee on August 28 was well attended.

She believed other members of the community who want to step into the remaining RHAC positions should be encouraged to do so.
