Tenders have now been called for the new People With Disability change rooms at Yarraman Memorial Pool.

Cr James O’Shea said Council was pleased the planned upgrades were a step closer to being delivered for the community.

“The existing change rooms at Yarraman Pool do not meet the required Australian standards for people with a disability and may currently be a barrier for some residents wanting to use the facilities,” he said.

“As part of these works, the outdated sling lift will be replaced with a new chair lift to improve access to the pool, along with a new wheelchair accessible path between the road, change room and the pool.

“We understand the community have been looking forward to PWD access improvements at Yarraman Pool and Council is pleased that we have now been able to invite for tenders for these works so they can get under way as soon as possible.

“We hope that by making these updates, more community members will enjoy the pool and its recreational benefits.”

Due to budget limits, a ramp in the pool will not be constructed as part of the upgrades, however Council says it will continue to improve access at the pool in the future.

Construction is expected to begin later this year and be completed by 2022. Access to the pool will be maintained during the 2021-22 summer season.

Tenders close on June 29.
