South Burnett Regional Council has formally wound up South Burnett Directions and the South Burnett Tourism Advisory Committee.
It will replace the two groups with a new Regional Development Advisory Committee to provide advice on growth strategies.
The make-up of this new committee is yet to be decided.
The decision to fold up the two older committees and rescind any policies connected to them was made at the February 17 standing committee meeting and ratified at Council’s February General Meeting.
Councillors resolved to send a letter of recognition to the former members of the two committees, noting their service and positive contributions to the region.
South Burnett Directions (SBD) was launched in June 2013 by then-Local Government Minister David Crisafulli as the South Burnett’s peak economic and tourism development body, and was tasked with overseeing economic development and tourism activities across the region.
The Tourism Advisory Committee (TAC) was formed in June 2019 following the demise of the industry-led South Burnett Tourism Association (SBTA) in mid-2015,
Membership of the TAC was made up of representatives from the region’s Chambers Of Commerce and the newly formed Visit South Burnett local tourism organisation.
When Council decided to enter into a funding partnership with Visit South Burnett last August, TAC became obsolete.
