Four young Scorpions were in action for the Wide Bay Under 13s in a representative game at Lyle Vidler Oval on Sunday … Lachlan Cullen, Braidyn Scott, Lochlan Burrows and Oscar Dioth

Four South Burnett junior cricketers starred for Wide Bay in an Under 13s match against a visiting Brisbane North XI  at Lyle Vidler Oval in Kingaroy on Sunday.

All four play junior cricket for Nanango Scorpions: Lachlan Cullen, Braidyn Scott, Lochlan Burrows and Oscar Dioth

Dioth worked hard in the heat, taking five wickets (5/25) with tight bowling during his eight overs.

Brisbane won the toss and batted first, finishing with 6/211 off their 50 overs.

Openers Louis Marais (68) and Luke Ward (60) set the visitors off to a strong start.

Dioth finally rattled Marais’ stumps and then took four more quick wickets but the damage had been done.

In reply, Dioth (9) and Lachlan Cullen (14) opened for Wide Bay.

Burrows top scored with 27 while Scott finished 11 not out.

Runs were hard to get and eventually Wide Bay simply ran out of overs in their chase, finishing 22 runs short at 7/189.

This weekend the Wide Bay U13s Boys will be in action at Palmwoods Sports Reserve at Palmwoods against the Sunshine Coast.

Nanango’s Oscar Dioth took five wickets for Wide Bay as well as hitting a handy nine runs as opening bat
Fellow Scorpion Lachlan Cullen also opened for Wide Bay
Opener Louis Marais top-scored with 68 runs – including five boundaries – for Brisbane North
Fellow opener Luke Ward was next best for Brisbane North, hitting 60 runs including six boundaries

South Burnett Senior Competition

Round 2 of the T20 series on Saturday with two games played again at three venues.

  • Wondai Wolves (8/135) def. Kumbia Rattlers (5/131) by two wickets.
  • Nanango Scorpions (4/110) def. Wooroolin Warriors (all out 90) by 20 runs.
  • Murgon Diggers (87 – no wickets lost) def. Kingaroy Services (5/77) by 10 wickets.
  • Cherbourg (5/148) def. Wondai Wolves (6/140) by five wickets.
  • Kumbia Rattlers (all out 108) def. Wooroolin Warriors (7/103) by 5 runs.
  • Nanango (5/236) def. Kingaroy Services (9/153) by 85 runs.

Gympie A Grade Competition

Murgon and Wooroolin Warriors have finished first and second on the ladder after the last round of the 40-over competition.

They are now scheduled to face each other in a Preliminary Final to be played at Murgon Sportsground on Saturday, with the winner to go directly into the Grand Final.

Last weekend, both teams were in action at Gympie:

  • Murgon Crusaders (3/288) def. Valleys (6/227) by 61 runs at Keith Manthey Oval.
  • Western Gympie (all out 151) def. Wooroolin Warriors (8/148) by 3 runs at Spencer Oval.

  • Stage 2 – Kingaroy Northern AgriServices (5/172) def. Kingaroy Burnett Water (5/63) by 109 runs at Kingaroy State School

Top scorers for AgriServices were Jackson (32 not out) and Jamie Searle (25 n/o).

Issac Hauritz took 1/9 and Josh 2/29 for Burnett Water.

Hauritz did well with the bat as well as the ball, finishing with 27 n/o.

Hayden Donohue (3/6) and Jackson (2/4) took the wickets for AgriServices.

  • Stage 3 – Murgon (9/286) def. Kingaroy Northern Agriservices (6/136) by 150 runs at Taabinga State School

Joe Meikle (56) and Tom Currin (51) were the top scorers for Murgon.

Best bowlers for Kingaroy were Charlotte Love (2/27) and Archie Koehler (2/9).

James Whiteman (34 n/o) and Reuben Hoare (28 n/o) were Kingaroy’s top scorers.

Charlie Sippel took 2/23 and Matthew Kunde 1/8 for Murgon.

Goodchild Shield

A South Burnett senior representative side will be taking on Gympie in a Goodchild Shield game at Lyle Vidler Oval on Sunday.

Fraser Coast and Bundaberg won the Round 1 games played in November.

The Grand Final will be played in February.
