Goomeri’s beleaguered swimming pool – which has been closed for all of 2020 – will reopen in time for the Christmas school holidays … hopefully.

Gympie Division 6 councillor Hilary Smerdon told southburnett.com.au new problems had been identified which had delayed the pool’s reopening.

Contractors have now started work on these repairs which he expected to be finished within the next two months, but he could not be certain of a date.

Cr Smerdon said most of the pool’s problems were connected to previous maintenance issues.

He said Council also planned to carry out more work – including repainting – when the pool closed for winter.

Goomeri Pool was allocated $509,000 in the GRC’s 2020-21 Budget with the hope it would reopen in time for this year’s swimming season.

The topic of the pool came into focus at Goomeri Pumpkin Festival’s annual general meeting, held at the Hall of Memory on Tuesday night.

Both Mayor Glen Hartwig and Council CEO Shane Gray addressed the meeting, which was chaired by Cr Smerdon.
