The organisers of the South Burnett Christmas Toy Run have thanked residents who contributed soft toys and other gifts to this year’s “Baskets Of Hope” collection.
They also thanked the 16 businesses in Kilkivan, Goomeri, Murgon, Wondai, Proston, Kingaroy, Nanango, Yarraman, Blackbutt, Maidenwell and Cooyar who acted as collection points to accept soft toy donations over a four week period between mid-November and early December.
On Saturday, more than 200 bike riders from as far afield as Gladstone, Toowoomba and Brisbane converged on Kingaroy Showgrounds to present their collections to the Salvation Army.
This year’s results were the biggest to date – so big, in fact, that the Salvos had to bring a truck to transport the toys back to their headquarters.
From there, they’ll be distributed to needy South Burnett families to ensure their children find a special surprise under the Christmas Tree this year.
At Saturday’s presentation, Kylie Birch, from the Salvation Army. told the large crowd of happy bikers that the Salvos had helped 160 families during the preceding week.
She thanked the motorcyclists – and Toy Run organisers Lynnsay Fryer and Kerrie Bantoft (from Kerrie B’s Motor-Bikery) and Steve Miatt (Sunshine Mitre 10) – for putting together this year’s event, as well as everyone who’d made a donation.
“You’re helping to spread some real happiness this Christmas,” Kylie said.
“Thank you all so much.”
As a final bit of fun for the year, Lynnsay and Kerrie are organising a “street meet” at this year’s Kingaroy Christmas Carnival on Thursday, December 14.
Motorbikes of all types will be on display in Haly Street, east of the Commonwealth Bank corner, between 5:00pm and 7:00pm for enthusiasts to browse.
A free ride on a Big Bike Tours tricycle motorcycle will also be a special giveaway on the night.
