The Brisbane Valley Rail Trail Users Association has launched a food competition to help raise awareness about the trail as well as businesses along its route.

President Paul Heymans said hikers, cyclists and horse-riders all had one thing in common: “We like food!”

The Brisbane Valley Rail Trail Flavours Competition is offering a cash prize of $500 plus a free feature article on the www.brisbanevalleyrailtrail.com.au website to any cafe, bakery or pub or other catering business within 750m of the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail for the best interpretation of what food a Rail Trailer might enjoy whilst experiencing the BVRT.

The food item or meal must be locally made, must be a featured menu item, and must have Brisbane Valley Rail Trail in the name.

For example, the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail Pie, the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail Brunch, the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail Burger, the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail Pancake, the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail Healthy Fruit Punch etc.

“And my word, are we going to enjoy trying them all out!” Paul said.

“We invite entrants to send us an email to advise us when the food item or meal is ready for judging and we’ll promote it on the website and on social media.

“Entries will be given a score by a secret panel of judges who will pay the business a visit incognito to sample the entry.

“The judge’s score will count for 50 per cent and there will also be a People’s Vote which will also count for 50 per cent.

“The one with the highest score wins.

“But everyone will be a winner. Every entry will be featured on social media and on the BVRT website both when you announce your entry and when the winner is announced.”

The closing date for entries will be March 31, 2017.

Entrants should email Paul when their entry is ready for judging.
