South Burnett Saints’ 2016 AFL season has come to end after being knocked out of the Darling Downs competition by 2015 1st Division Premiers Coolaroo in the first semi-final played in Toowoomba on Saturday.
The 2015 2nd Division Premiers were always going to have a tough job against the 1st Division side, but went down fighting.
South Burnett actually led at the end of the first quarter by a goal, but it wasn’t a big enough margin to keep the Roos away.
In the lead-up to half-time, Coolaroo defence kept the Saints goalless while their kickers added six goals.
The half-time score was Coolaroo 11.5 (71) to South Burnett 6.3 (39).
Coolaroo was just as relentless throughout the third and fourth quarters, taking the final score to 23.12 (150) to 10.7 (67).
South Burnett goals were kicked by Adam Bowater (2), Keegan Wright (2), Ty Snow (2), Braeden Snow, Keiran Snow, Carl Stevenson and Jordan Pressnell.
The Preliminary Final of the Darling Downs AFL competition will be played next Saturday in Toowoomba between Coolaroo and University Cougars.
The winner of this game will face South Toowoomba in the Grand Final in Toowoomba on September 10.
