All Queensland fines have just gone up.

Since 2000, “penalty units” – the basis for how most fines are calculated – have risen from $70 to $113.85.

On July 1, they rose again to $117.80.

For example, the penalty for driving without due care and attention is a maximum of 40 penalty units or six months jail; therefore the maximum fine for the offence is now $4712.
