The onset of warmer weather can cause a headache – literally – for neighbours and the police who are called out to noise complaints.

Officer-in-charge of Kingaroy Police, Senior Sergeant Duane Frank, said people left their windows open, which meant noise and music travelled much further.

He said there also seemed to be a lot more parties.

“People are entitled to enjoy themselves in a traditional Australian manner,” he said. “But I ask them to be respectful of their neighbours and realise other people have to work at weekends.”

He said Kingaroy Police had been called out to a few noise complaints over the weekend.

“When we receive complaints about noise we are obliged to attend,” Snr Sgt Frank said.

“If the police judge the noise to be excessive, they will issue a direction to abate the noise, or they can consider removing the noise, by seizing the stereo or instruments or whatever.”

Snr Sgt Frank said people commonly believed there was a time – 10:00pm, 11:00pm or midnight – until which they could make noise.

“There is no set time for the noise.  It’s all about the police assessment of the situation, given the circumstances, the location, the time and the concerns it is causing people in the local area,” he said.

“So even if its 9:00pm at night, if police deem it to be excessive, we will take the necessary steps to fix the problem.”
