Light or heavy, day or night, we live in a world of contrast. And South Burnett Toastmasters will experience some of these contrasts at their next few meetings.

On the light side, the last meeting saw considerable fun enjoyed by all as the night’s theme was “Surprise”.

Individual Toastmasters brought along little surprise items and introductions were made in a round robin based on a “pass the parcel” allocation system.

Members and guests threw themselves with gusto into the evening.

By contrast, the next meeting will be staging speaking contests.

This is the heavier side – serious indeed!

The first contests that will be staged are the Humorous Speech and the Evaluation.

These will be followed the next evening with Table Topics, an impromptu mini-speech and the International Speech.

Toastmasters is not a teaching organisation but a learning-by-doing group.

In a light-hearted, normal meeting, inexperienced and experienced alike get the chance to practice and hone their public speaking skills.

This is an ideal place to learn the skills and the confidence to speak in front of a group of people, small or large.

Toastmasters meet at the Kingaroy RSL every 1st, 3rd and 5th Thursday of the month at 7:00pm.
