St John's Lutheran School 30th Anniversary

St John's Lutheran School in Ivy Street, Kingaroy will be celebrating its 30th birthday from 10:00am to 2:00pm today with a community party expected to be attended by hundreds of former teachers and students. Activities will get underway with the ringing of the old school bell and will be followed by old-time games, baked goods, market stalls, face painting, jumping castles and plenty of other family-friendly entertainment. There'll also be school tours and history displays, whip cracking and dance performances. There's no admission charge and everyone is welcome! More details? South Burnett Unpacked - Blackbutt
A South Burnett Unpacked morning for the South Burnett's Visitor Information Centre volunteers and tourism operators will be held at the Blackbutt Memorial Hall in Bowman Road, Blackbutt from 9:00am to 1:00pm today to celebrate the start of this year's tourism season (which runs in the South Burnett from late March through to mid-October). The morning will feature stalls, demonstrations, competitions and family fun, as well as a jumping castle and face painting for children. The new-look South Burnett Touring Guide will also be launched today. Everyone is welcome and there's no admission fee.
Deal'N - Kingaroy
Popular South Burnett entertainers Deal'N will be performing at Kingaroy RSL in Markwell Street, Kingaroy from 7:00pm until around 11:00pm tonight. Admission is free. More details from the RSL on (07) 4162-1755.
Australian Buddy Holly Show - Kingaroy
The Australian Buddy Holly Show will be appearing at Kingaroy Town Hall from 6:00pm until late tonight. The show will feature Buddy Holly tribute performer Chris Knight and his band, plus the South Burnett's very own Elvis Jeff Hancox, and if you love classic 1950s and 1960s rock & roll it should be an all-star night! A cash bar, tea, coffee and cupcakes will all be operating throughout the evening, and tickets - $40 for adults or $15 for under-14s - will be available at the door. Everyone is welcome!
South Burnett Community Young Orchestra Workshop
The South Burnett Community Young Orchestra will be holding the first in a series of free workshops for musicians of all ages at the Uniting Church Hall and the corner of Alford and Youngman Streets in Kingaroy from 9:00am to 4:00pm today. Participants should be at least AMEB level 1 standard, and several specialist tutors and conductors along with SBCO mentors will be on hand to teach new skills and build confidence. Wondai Parkrun
The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed run at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the parkrun group is free to join. Proston Men's Shed
The Proston Men's Shed will be meeting at the old railway station building at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston for its regular Saturday morning meeting today, kicking off with a cuppa at 9:00am. Yarraman Endurance Ride
The first day of the two-day Yarraman Endurance Ride will be held at the Yarraman Showgrounds on the New England Highway west of town from 8:00am today, offering a 20km and a 40km ride. Ride fees are $35 (20km) and $60 (40km) and registrations to take part need to have been made by March 25, but spectators are welcome along for free and a canteen and camping facilities will be available in the grounds. Tomorrow the event will be offering a 60km ride (step-off is at 6:00am - $80 fee) and a 30km ride (7:00am - $35 fee). More details? Visit the Endurance Horse Sports Australia website.
Bowls Club Bingo - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Bowls Club at 141 Youngman St, Kingaroy will be running bingo matches from 7:30pm this evening with over $1000 in prizes on offer. More details from the club on (07) 4162-1404
Watercolour Workshop - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Regional Art Gallery will be hosting the first day of a weekend-long Watercolour Workshop tutored by well-known North Burnett watercolourist Sue Lederhose from 8:30am today (and also tomorrow). Workshop participants can expect to complete four major paintings and several small thumbnails, covering different subjects and using both rough and hot presses surfaces, over the course of the weekend. They'll also learn some basic drawing and composition principles, all in a relaxed and fun learning environment. The cost of the course is $150 and places are limited. Lloyd Back At The Palace

Saturday Soccer - Kingaroy and Wondai
The second round of the South Burnett's 2019 football season will be played in Wondai and Kingaroy today. In Wondai, the Barambah Bears will play Kingaroy's Gunners at the Wondai soccer fields off the highway just north of the Wondai Sportsgrounds, with Women's Division taking to the park at 2:00pm, followed by the Men's Division at 3:30pm. And in Kingaroy, home team Wests will test their mettle against Nanango's Panthers on the hallowed grounds of Tom Alford Oval at the end of Oliver Bond Street, with the Women's Division playing at 3:15pm, followed by the Men's Division at 5:00pm. A canteen will be running at both venues and spectators are very welcome.
Murgon Men's Shed
The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding a meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.
Saturday Golf - Kingaroy

Kingaroy's Utopia Cafe at 199 Kingaroy Street will be holding a Utopia Night Dinner from 6:00pm until artound 9:30pm tonight. For $55 per head, guests can enjoy an entree of Pork Gyoza with Orange & Soy dipping sauce; a choice between two gourmet mains (Sri Lankan Prawn Curry with steamed rice or Chilli Ginger Beef & Broccoli); and a choice between two gourmet desserts ('Matcha' Creme Brulee or Sticky Rice with Poached Lychees and Lime-cured Mango). B-Grade Cricket Grand Final
POSTPONED The South Burnett's 2018-19 cricket season will draw to a close today with the B-Grade Grand Final between the Nanango Scorpions and Blackbutt's Timbertowners, which will be played at the Blackbutt Sports Field at 12:30pm. The Timbertowners have only suffered three losses this season, but one was against the Scorpions so today's match promises to be a very interesting game indeed. The Grand Final will be preceded at 11:30am with the region's A and B Grade presentations, and spectators are very welcome to both events.
Tucker & Chop - Kingaroy
Popular South Burnett duo Tucker & Chop will be performing in the front bar of the Kingaroy Hotel at the corner of Haly and Youngman Streets, Kingaroy from 8:00pm until late tonight. Admission is free. More details from the hotel on (07) 4162-1677.
School For Murder - Nanango
The Nanango Theatre Company will be presenting the second performance of their latest production "School For Murder" at the Nanango Playhouse in Elk Street, Nanango at 7:30pm tonight. Tickets are $20 for adults or $15 for concessions, and they can be obtained from the Nanango Visitor Information Centre in Henry Street. Some tickets may also be available at the door, unless sold out. Other performances will be held at the same time and venue on April 5 and 6.
Stray Dogs - Kingaroy

Pig On A Spit Night - Maidenwell
Maidenwell's historic Maidenwell Hotel will be holding another of their popular monthly Pig On A Spit evenings from 6:00pm until late tonight (dinner is served from 6:00pm to 8:00pm). There'll be live entertainment from the popular Arthur Nettelfield and lots of cold beer, along with more pork than you can poke a fork at, all served up with with roast potatoes, pumpkin, corn, peas, carrots, applesauce and gravy for $17 per plate! Booie Spinners & Weavers Pop-Up Boutique - Coolabunia
The Booie Spinners & Weavers group will be running a pop-up boutique at Pottique on the D'Aguilar Highway at Coolabunia at 10:30am this morning to show interested people what types of activities the group are involved in. All interested people are welcome to come along, meet members and talk about spinning and weaving matters. Today's pop-up is one of a series the group plan to run over coming months.
Saturday Rugby League - Cherbourg and Nanango
The second round of the South Burnett's 2019 rugby league season will be played in Cherbourg and Nanango today. In Cherbourg, Cherbourg will play Wondai in U6/U8s at 9:00am; U78/U9s at 10:00am; U10s at 11:00am; and U12s at noon. This will be followed by an A-grade clash between the Wondai Wolves and Kingaroy Red Ants at 1:00pm; and then a second A-grade clash between the Cherbourg Hornets and Murgon Mustangs at 3:00pm. In Nanango, it will be an all-junior day with Nanango playing Kingaroy in U7/U9s at 8:00am; Nanango playing Murgon in U6s/U8s at 8:30am; Kingaroy playing Murgon in U7/U9s at 9:00am; Nanango playing Murgon U6/U8s at 10:00am; Nanango playing Murgon in U7/U9s at 10:30am; U11s at 11:30am; and U10s at noon. This will be followed by Murgon playing Kingaroy in U11s at 1:00pm; Nanango playing Murgon in U12s at 1:30pm; Nanango playing Kingaroy in U11s at 2:30pm; and Nanango playing Murgon in U14s at 3:00pm. For fans who'd like to travel further afield, the South Burnett Eagles U18s will be playing Toowoomba Valleys in Toowoomba at 3:00pm; the Wondai Wolves U14s will be playing Chinchilla in Chinchilla at 1:00pm; and Kingaroy will be playing Gayndah in Gayndah. Canteens will be running at all venues and spectators are very welcome.
