The Salvation Army is calling for volunteers across the South Burnett to help establish a new Salvation Army Emergency Services Catering Response Team to support the region when disaster strikes.

To showcase the team’s equipment and capabilities, South Burnett Salvos will host a Salvation Army Emergency Services Open Day this Saturday (October 31) from 8:00am to 11:00am at the Salvos’ hall at 107-109 Kingaroy Street, Kingaroy.

Community members are invited to inspect the Salvation Army’s catering trailer, learn how emergency catering operates during disasters, ask questions about volunteering and sign up to be a volunteer. Free breakfast burgers and drinks will be available throughout the morning.

Church leader Seath Holswich said the initiative was about building local capacity to care for people when they need it most.

“When disaster strikes, a hot meal, a friendly face and practical support can make an enormous difference to first responders and locals who are doing it tough,” Mr Holswich said.

“We’re looking for people who want to make a practical difference in their community. You don’t need to have all the answers before you start. The Open Day is an opportunity to see what we do, meet the team and find out how you could be involved.”

Full training will be provided for those who are accepted as volunteers.
