South Burnett Mayor Kathy Duff’s long council service was recognised at the recent Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ) conference in Cairns.
The LGAQ noted that Mayor Duff had been an elected representative for 22 years and two months.
She was elected to Wondai Shire Council in 2004 and then, after council amalgamations, to the South Burnett Regional Council in 2008.
Cr Duff was appointed South Burnett Deputy Mayor in April 2016 and was elected Mayor at the March 2024 Council polls.
She was presented with a commemorative lapel pin and a long service certificate at the conference.
The conference recognised councillors who had completed three terms or more in local government.
Among the longest serving councillors honoured were Ipswich City Council’s Paul Tully (45 years and seven months); John Wharton, Richmond Shire Council (35 years and three months); and Robyn Fuhrmeister, Balonne Shire Council (31 years and four months).
