Not-for-profit association South Burnett CTC has been selected to deliver a new “Risk Response” bail program in Cherbourg.
Member for Nanango, Attorney-General Deb Frecklington. said Cherbourg was one of 13 locations across Queensland picked to take part in the intensive bail support program which aims to reduce reoffending and improve community safety.
Mrs Frecklington said the program was an important step in addressing youth crime while providing targeted support to vulnerable young people and their families.
“This program strikes the right balance between accountability and support,” she said.
“The Risk Response Bail Program will provide intensive, targeted support to young offenders aged 10 to 17 and their families, helping them understand and comply with their bail conditions while reducing the risk of reoffending.
“Communities across our region have been impacted by youth crime, and initiatives like this are about delivering practical measures that make our communities safer while helping young people get their lives back on track.
“This is an important layer in breaking the cycle of youth crime by providing support where it is needed most while reinforcing personal responsibility and accountability.”
The program will target young offenders at high risk of breaching their bail conditions.
South Burnett CTC will be required to make contact within 24 hours of a bail decision.
