Visit South Burnett will be representing the region at the 39th National Rally of the Campervan and Motorhome Club of Australia rally in Bundaberg next month.
This huge rally, which attracts hundreds of campervans and caravans from across Australia, offers both on-site and off-site activities and has been identified by VSB as a target market to promote more tourism short stays in the South Burnett.
News about the rally was shared with VSB members and guests at the local tourism organisation’s latest meet’n’greet, held at the Club Hotel in Kingaroy on Thursday night.
VSB president Jason Kinsella and tourism development officer Melanie Eastaugh provided updates about VSB activities, including the upcoming launch of a new membership portal for tourism operators to share information.
Jason also shared information about the upgrades which have been happening to the Club Hotel and his desire to create an old-fashioned “hub of the community”-type pub where people could come and just sit with friends.
The 22 rooms upstairs are being renovated with the aim of offering tourism accommodation options, avoiding long-term tenancies which had caused problems under previous management.
Jason said the hotel’s history dated back to 1899, but the hotel was rebuilt – with the help of US forces stationed at Kingaroy Airport – in stages during 1941 creating a very solid building which had withstood the test of time.
He has been discovering the history of the building – and its female ghost – as the renovations have been slowly progressing.
Jason said a South Burnett “Pub Trail” could be a future project for VSB as there were so many interesting old hotels across the region, packed with history and stories.
Another VSB project under development involves the use of the legacy funds passed over to VSB from South Burnett Events Inc when it was wound up last year; more about this will be released at a later date.
The next VSB meet’n’greet will be held on November 10 at Murgon Pool.
