Despite a very hectic weekend battling potentially serious bushfires around the region, rural and urban firefighters crews had to go right back into action on Monday with several new blazes breaking out.
- At 10:46am, a “STAY INFORMED” alert was current for the Mount Binga and Emu Creek areas for a fire burning near Blackbutt Range Road at Emu Creek.
A Queensland Fire Department spokesperson said the large scrub fire had been burning since Sunday morning in inaccessible country but no buildings were under threat at the moment.
About nine fire crews were working on the ground and a spotter aircraft had been called in to assist them.
This fire, burning towards Woolshed Road, was expected to continue for several days but residents have been warned to stay informed as the situation could change.
- At 12:45pm, fire crews were called to a fire burning near Stretton Drive at Teelah.
At 1:30pm, seven fire units were in attendance.
- At 1:30pm, an “AVOID SMOKE” warning was still in place for the South-East Nanango fire which prompted an emergency “Prepare To Leave” warning on Saturday.
This fire came within metres of a residence in Hamilton Road, and also threatened properties on Old Esk North Road and the Muir Drive areas.
Both urban and rural fire crews battled this blaze, working hard to protect properties with support coming from waterbombing aircraft.
The QFD spokesperson said this fire was contained on Sunday evening.
Firefighters continued mopping up into the night, followed by continued patrols of the area.
- At 1:45pm, a fire emergency on Niagara Road at Diamondy had eased with two fire crews remaining on the scene.
This fire broke out about 9:45am and at one stage had up to 10 crews in attendance.
- A large grass fire which broke out in the Okeden area on Sunday forced a temporary closure of Proston-Boondooma Road.
An “AVOID SMOKE” warning was in place on Monday morning for the fire, which had burning between Trentham Land and Ivanhoe Road.
Both urban and rural fire crews were in action on Sunday to protect structures.
A bulldozer was also called in to cut firebreaks and fire crews were also supported by a waterbombing aircraft.
- South Burnett firefighters were also kept busy over the weekend at fires at Brooklands and Coomba Waterhole at Maidenwell.
