Fire-fighting aircraft were still in action – and a “Stay Informed” warning in place – on Thursday morning at a large scrub fire burning south of Cooyar.
The blaze broke out about 11:30am on Wednesday near Grahams and Woodrows roads at Wutul and quickly spread to cover an area of more than 400ha.
Rural and urban fire crews were supported by water bombers and spotter aircraft to help contain the fire.
A QFD spokesperson said at one stage there were 38 fire units in action, including both helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft.
The fire was contained by 10:20pm, but fire crews returned on Thursday morning to conduct patrols and reinforce containment lines.
Heavy machinery, including bulldozers, were brought in to cut firebreaks.
At 11:15am, two aircraft were also assisting fire crews on the ground.
No structures were under threat but a “Stay Informed” warning, first issued about 12:30pm on Wednesday, was still active at 10:08am on Thursday, with local residents warned the fire was now burning near East Cooyar Road.
