South Burnett Sub-Chamber entrant Matthew McCauley has been awarded the runner-up’s sash in the prestigious Queensland Ag Shows’ Rural Ambassador competition.
Matthew, who was the local Murgon Show winner, was just pipped by South-West Sub-Chamber entrant Lauren Finger (Taroom Show).
The Community Spirit Award winner was Central & North West Sub-Chamber’s Georgie Orman (Longreach Show).
There were 11 finalists in the awards, representing every corner of the State.
They took part in a number of activities last week ahead of the announcement of the award winners at a formal dinner on Sunday evening at View Brisbane in Hamilton.
The South Burnett Sub-Chamber’s entrants in the Stud Beef Young Judges and Paraders finals also just narrowly missed out on the top spots.
Jessica Beddows (Proston Show) was runner-up to South-West Sub-Chamber’s Amy Collins (Wallumbilla Show) in the Stud Beef Young Judges competition.
Clancy Düll (Blackbutt Show) was runner-up behind Burnett Sub-Chamber’s Ryan Gould (Gayndah Show) in the Stud Beef Young Paraders competition.
