A stunning blue quilt, “Pacific Gems”, has been voted the winner of the Kingaroy Regional Art Gallery’s “Battle Of The Quilts” competition.
Visitors to the gallery during the Queensland Winter Craft Festival were invited to vote on their favourite quilt from the 20 on display in the main and front galleries.
Gordonbrook quilter Marion Lees will take home the $500 first prize for her large quilt which was shown to great effect on the gallery’s blue feature wall.
The “Battle Of The Quilts” competition winner, announced on Sunday, was a highlight of the festival’s annual Quilt Trail, which featured venues from Wondai to Kingaroy at the weekend.
A popular spot for visitors was Wooroolin Memorial Hall where the “Wooroolin De Stash” event was happening.
People were buying, selling and swapping fabrics and other craft items – as well as quilting tips!.
Another popular venue was The Quilters Rest at Gordonbrook, a spot where quilters can relax and enjoy a self-catered retreat while completing their projects.
southburnett.com.au dropped in on Saturday afternoon – before owner Marion was named winner of the “Battle” competition – to check out what was happening.
People were coming and going, looking at the 61 quilts on display and for sale.
Of special interest were 13 special quilts which were made by members of the “Archie Group” at The Quilters Rest.
The members meet three times a year and this year decided their project would be to make quilts to give to police to distribute to victims of domestic violence.
