Just over a year ago, we announced that South Burnett Online would be taking a new direction, ie. the structure would change to a not-for-profit model.

We reported (see link, below) that a new association had been formed, Burnett News Inc, which would take over the running of the former partnership between the late Dafyd Martindale and myself.

Well, after a year of sorting out important paperwork – including the legal contract confirming the assets transfer – the new model is now formally in place!

On July 1, 2026, all the assets of South Burnett Online, including the websites, files, office equipment and domain names, have passed over to Burnett News Inc for a peppercorn payment of $1, the symbolic fee used to make the agreement legally binding.

We celebrated with the cutting of a cake in a small ceremony held on Wednesday night at the Kingaroy RSL Club.

Burnett News Inc members, South Burnett Online supporters (and some other friends lured in from another meeting!) witnessed the event.

I would like to sincerely thank everyone who came along to watch this moment, and executive committee member Barry Krosch for donating the cake.

So what is going to change?

Not a lot initially, I believe.

I will still be writing news stories for SBO.

However, anyone who advertises with us will notice that the invoices look different and will be paid into a different bank account.

(Of course, we would love you to advertise with us!)

And we renew our invitation to anyone who would like to join Burnett News Inc to contact the secretary by email

The cost has gone up from $10 per annum to $11 (inc GST) as Burnett News Inc is now registered for GST.

All our other contact details remain the same.

Thank you everyone for supporting South Burnett Online for the past 26 years, and especially for your support since Dafyd and I created the news format in 2012.

The future now depends on you … the South Burnett community!
