Kingaroy State High School student Matti van Schyndel was a special guest at State Parliament this week on Budget Day.

Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington said Matti had been selected to represent the region, joining students from across Queensland for a hands-on learning experience.

The students gained insight into how revenue, including taxes, funds essential services, and how governments balance competing priorities.

A highlight was the opportunity for students to share their ideas and provide advice to the Premier and Treasurer on what should be included in the Budget.

“It’s fantastic to see students like Matti taking part in such valuable opportunities and representing our region so well,” Mrs Frecklington said.

“It was lovely to have a familiar face in Parliament and to see Matti so engaged in learning about the State Budget and the important role government plays in delivering for communities.

“Importantly, the program empowers young people to see how they can make a difference and have a positive influence in their local communities.”

The program gives young people a practical understanding of how the State Budget works and how governments make decisions.

Students learn about the role of government, departments and portfolios, and how the Budget shapes priorities.
