Former South Burnett resident Liz Caffery will be launching her latest book at a special function in Kingaroy next month.

“Captain Of His Destiny” is a biography of an amazing man and Kingaroy resident, Elizabeth’s uncle, the late Jim Burns.

Jim was a severely disabled polio paraplegic who was determined to defy his disability to live a “normal” life.

“He became a brilliant violinist, teacher, concert conductor, adventurer, family mentor and friend to many,” Liz said.

“It has taken me 45 years to complete this book which I first began shortly after Jim’s death in 1979.”

Jim was well-known for his music shop in Kingaroy Street, his concerts, his bands and, of course, his music lessons.

The book launch will be held from 2:00pm on Saturday, June 6 at St Mary’s Catholic Church Hall in Albert Street, Kingaroy.

Guest speaker will be another well-known Kingaroy resident and musician, Moya Hayden.

Light refreshments will be served after the book launch.

  • For catering purposes, please RSVP by email before May 30.
