The Burrandowan Picnic Race Club will be celebrating 104 years of racing at Burrandowan, 66km west of Kingaroy, on Saturday (May 9).
Crowds have been gathering at Burrandowan on the second Saturday in May since 1922 to take in the atmosphere of a bush picnic race meeting.
Organisers are hoping for another bumper turnout at this classic South Burnett event.
Shuttle buses will be running from Kingaroy at 11:00am, 1:00pm and 3:00pm. Tickets are $50 per person return; book with Pursers Coaches on (07) 4168-1533.
Camping is available at the track from Thursday for $15 per person per night, but overnight camping is free on Saturday night.
Racing begins at 1:30pm and there’s a five-race card, with the always-popular Fashions On The Field contests running during an extended break between Race 3 and 4.
After the last race is run, the course’s pit-fired barbecue will light up and there’ll be live entertainment with Wal Neilsen (and dancing) from 6:00pm until late into the night.
Barbecue tickets can be bought at the steakhouse inside the track (BYO alcohol for the pit-fired barbecue area only).
Patrons are reminded there are no ATMs and no mobile phone coverage at the track, so they should bring cash.
Entry to this year’s meeting is $25 per head (plus booking fee) and tickets can be booked online
