The South Burnett Junior MX Club joined with the family of champion motocross rider Joel Evans to celebrate his memory over the Anzac Day weekend with special activities at the MX track where he learnt most of his skills.

Joel, 30, died in hospital last April from injuries suffered in a crash while competing in Round 3 of the 2025 Australian ProMX Championship in South Australia.

The club wanted to create a family day for club members at the renamed “Joel Evans Raceway” with two days of activities for young and old, both on and off the track.

Many riders travelled from across Queensland and interstate to take part in the weekend, camping overnight at the track.

There were wacky games – such as MX boot races and limbo events – as well as contests of riding skill, including barrel races.

The track was carefully prepared for the two days of activities, with riders of all ages testing their motocross skills on the hills and tight turns.

JAson Knight, from Kingaroy, and Alben Perrett, from Gympie, were volunteering at the club barbecue
A highlight of the fun day was the barrel races for both senior and junior competitors
