FLASHBACK: The late Joel Evans (#81) at the SBJMX club track in Kingaroy … a ride day is being held there in his memory this Sunday

April 21, 2026

A special Joel Evans Memorial Weekend is being held in Kingaroy (April 25-26) to mark the first anniversary of the tragic death of the champion local motocross rider.

Joel, 30, died in hospital last April from injuries suffered in a crash while competing in Round 3 of the 2025 Australian ProMX Championship in South Australia.

The South Burnett Junior MX Club has organised a weekend of activities which will be held at their track near Kingaroy Airport.

Gates will open at 2:00pm on Saturday and there will be free games with prizes from 3:00pm, including tyre throwing, a treasure hunt, MX boot races and more.

A jumping castle will also be there for the kids.

Camping will be available overnight with a bonfire and wood-fired pizzas available.

On Sunday, a Joel Evans Ride Day will be held with entries to be registered on the Ridernet website (free to join).

“We want as many locals as possible to come out to enjoy this day in memory of our local hero,” a SBJMX spokesperson said.

“If you’ve ever wanted to ride an MX track but never given it a go, this is your chance.

“Groups are split by skill level so racers can go all out and those wanting to have fun can ride at their own pace.

“Come out and help us remember Joel and make it a fun day for all!”

No Motorcycling Australia (MA) licence is required but riders without one must pay $15 for insurance.

Sunday will also feature the Viking Industrial Limbo Challenge and the Wooroolin Machinery Barrel Race for junior and senior riders.
