South Burnett Mayor Kathy Duff (with only a hint of pink), Claire Kapernick and Cr Deb Dennien were decked out in purple for the Wondai Wolves’ “Play in Purple” fundraiser to improve the lives of people with pancreatic cancer

August 8, 2025

Wondai Wolves hosted the last round of the South Burnett rugby league competition in style last Saturday with a cancer fundraiser and their annual Ladies Day.

A marquee was erected at Wondai Sportsground as the usual venue, the Wolves Clubhouse, was still in the hands of the builders who are constructing a new downstairs area.

There was quizzes, games and a fashions competition as well as drinks, food and lots and lots of purple – the colour for pancreatic cancer.

The Wolves were raising funds for Pankind, a charity dedicated to improving the outcomes for people affected by this cancer.

Out on the field, ladder leaders Cherbourg stamped their dominance over second-placed Kingaroy; while Murgon defeated Wondai in a much closer game.

Both games will be reprised on August 16 at Blackbutt, with Murgon v Wondai in the sudden-death minor semi-final and Cherbourg v Kingaroy in the major semi.
