The driver of B-Double transporting pigs was lucky to escape serious injury when his vehicle ran off the roadway and overturned near Tingoora on Tuesday morning.

Emergency services were called to the incident, near the Durong turn-off (Chinchilla-Wondai Road) on the Bunya Highway, about 10:15am.

A QAS spokesperson said paramedics assessed a man in his 50s at the scene who declined transport to hospital.

The driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

The incident forced the closure of the highway after reports some pigs had escaped from the wreckage.

The highway was still closed at 2:30pm and police were urging motorists to avoid the area.

Traffic was being diverted via Transmitter Road.

A police spokesperson said Workplace Health and Safety officials were investigating the incident.
