Two businesses allegedly selling illegal tobacco products or vapes in Kingaroy were temporarily shut down after raids last week by officers from the Darling Downs Public Health Unit.
A Darling Downs Health spokesperson said three locations were searched on June 24, with interim closure orders issued to two businesses.
(Both shops had re-opened and were trading as usual on Monday.)
Seized were:
- Illicit cigarettes – 100,440
- Illicit loose-leaf tobacco – 6.6kg
- Vapes – 903
- Drug paraphernalia – 27
“Our officers will continue to respond to complaints about the sale of illicit tobacco and other alleged breaches of the Tobacco and Other Smoke Products Act 1998,” the spokesperson said.
‘The Darling Downs Public Health Unit has a responsibility, in the interest of public safety, to undertake proactive and targeted responses to breaches of smoking products laws, including vapes, as the sale of non-regulated products presents a risk to the community.
“If you suspect that tobacco or other nicotine products are being sold illegally, please report it via 13 QGOV (13 74 68) or online”
