Goomeri Show Society hosted the South Burnett Sub-Chamber finals on Saturday … the annual event which selects which South Burnett show winners will represent the region at the Ekka.
The finalists from the various local show societies enjoyed a day of activities in the Goomeri area before the presentation night at the Goomeri Hall of Memory.
Final judging in a number of categories also took place, including on-stage interviews with the Showgirl and Rural Ambassador finalists.
Showgirl and Rural Ambassador judges were current Queensland Rural Ambassador Stephanie Laycock, Denise Ryan, from Warwick; and Tim Andrews, from Beaudesert.
Lorraine Kiem also had the difficult task of judging the entries in the Dark Rich Fruit Cake and Next Generation Anzac Biscuit competitions.
Recognised on the night were:
- Showgirl – Carly Jaenke (Nanango Show Society); runner-up Veronica May (Kingaroy Show Society)
- Rural Ambassador – Kristen Corfield (Goomeri Show Society); runner-up Tristan Waldock (Murgon Show Society)
- Dark Rich Fruit Cake – Gloria Fleming (Nanango Show Society); runner-up Jacinta Rockemer (Goomeri Show Society)
- Next Generation Anzac Biscuit Competition – Lorraine Taylor (Murgon Show Society); runner-up Robyn Sawtell (Nanango Show Society)
- Young Parader Stud Beef – Ryan Gould
- Young Judge Stud Beef – Rhianna McIntyre
- Young Judge Prime Beef – Jessica Beddows
The winners of these categories will represent the South Burnett at the Ekka in August.
Earlier in the day the finalists enjoyed heavy horse demonstration from Windama Clydesdales and Madeegan Clydesdales and visits to Goomeri businesses Tierney Road Truffles, Barambah Valley Confectionery and OSKA + WILLOW.
