The South Burnett Regional Council’s key operating document for the next five years, the 2025-30 Corporate Plan, was rubber-stamped at Council’s May general meeting.

The new Corporate Plan was adopted by councillors after a Draft version was workshopped at nine community meetings held in towns and villages across the region during April and May.

Local councils are required by law to produce a new Corporate Plan every five years to guide decision-making and the allocation of resources.

Residents were invited to provide feedback on the Draft Plan online, on paper forms at Council’s Customer Service Centres and at the community meetings held at Wondai, Maidenwell, Blackbutt, Proston, Murgon, Durong, Kumbia, Nanango and Kingaroy.

Council staff members were also given the opportunity to provide feedback.

The new Corporate Plan covers five key elements:

  • Enhancing liveability and lifestyle,
  • Providing key infrastructure for towns and villages,
  • Growing the region’s economy and prosperity,
  • Safeguarding the environment, and
  • Organisational excellence.

It also spells out a new “vision” and “purpose” for Council:

  • The Vision:  “An organisation known for its exceptional customer service empowering employees to go above and beyond to ensure customer satisfaction.”
  • The Purpose:  “To deliver the best possible outcomes for our customers, within the resources we have.”

Mayor Kathy Duff said she was excited with the new direction and was keen to have a more-customer focused organisation.

“Council is a service provider to our ratepayers and CEO Mark (Pitt) and I are keen to empower the staff to go the extra mile to support our customers,” Mayor Duff said.

Also discussed during the April and May community meeting were Draft Community Plans for each town.

These remained out for consultation until the end of May.

They will be now be put to the June Council meeting for endorsement before another community review.

Mayor Kathy Duff said she would like to thank everyone who had participated in the consultation process, in particular the residents who had come along to the community meetings.
