Hey South Burnett mums! Want to keep the Mother’s Day vibe going? Here’s another event to add to your social calendar!
Motherland, a national charity that aims to reduce isolation and improve mental health outcomes for rural women, is holding a fun fundraising afternoon at Hillview Cottages in Kingaroy on Saturday, May 24.
There’ll be nibbles from The Picnic House and drinks plus a panel discussion exploring the highs and lows of rural motherhood.
The discussion will be led by Motherland founder and CEO Stephanie Trethewey but three local women will be also taking part:
- Felicity Burton – owner and manager, Burton Family Beef and Diamond K Performance Horses
- Kylea Hodkinson-Jones – owner, Firebreak Farm and Ex-Member of the Australian Defence Force
- Jenny Lutz – founder, South Burnett Autism Support Group
Tickets are $85 per person (under 13s are free) which includes the nibbles and a complimentary drink upon arrival.
Motherland is a virtual mothers group program for rural women with children aged up to 18, regardless of their location.
It has supported thousands of women from all corners of the country since it launched in 2019 through its Motherland Connect platform, podcast, Motherland Village program, scholarship fund and advocacy.
Motherland Village Ambassador (and South Burnett resident) Melanie McNaughton will host the Hillview Cottages event.
She said the fundraiser would celebrate rural motherhood, from new mothers to grandmothers, whilst discussing key health challenges to ensure local women are not being left behind.
“We know the challenges of living in rural and regional areas, but we also know the value of community and connection through programs like Motherland,” Melanie said.
“It would be great to see as many women come out in support as possible. I’ve seen the difference it’s made to the lives of locals, and if we can give back by paying it forwards, it means even more mums can access the services and support they need.”
(Would like to attend but can’t afford to? Motherland is also offering scholarships for women who are doing it tough to apply for free. More information is available on the Motherland website)
