The South Burnett Saints notched up their first win of the season in the Darling Downs AFL competition last Saturday in Toowoomba.
They defeated the South Toowoomba Bombers 7.9-51 to 7.6-48 in a close game.
Jack Mines (2), Corey Smith, Fletcher Brown, Kelly Salmon, Nathan Trace and Ryan Zeller kicked the Saints’ six-pointers.
The Saints’ women also enjoyed a big win, downing the Bombers 11.6-72 to 1.1-7.
The U13.5s juniors also put in a strong performance, kicking seven goals despite going down against the Bombers 11.7-73 to 7.4-46.
The AFL action will be in Kingaroy this weekend for the Ben Brooks Memorial Day Cup Round, played in honour of the much-loved former player who died of cancer in 2022.
Saints men will be challenging the Warwick Redbacks at 2:45pm at Lyle Vidler Oval.
Can they defend the Cup which they won against Warwick last year?
This is the fourth time the Saints have held a special Brooksy’s Round.
After the game, Ben Brooks Medals will be presented to a player from each team who displayed Ben’s “courage, determination and never-give-up attitude”.
The Saints’ women have a bye this weekend, but the U13.5s will be taking on Coolaroo, also at Lyle Vidler Oval.
