Parish Priest Fr Stanley Orji and School Principal Carmel O’Brien congratulated 2024 School Dux Mia De Guzman

Saint Mary’s Catholic College in Kingaroy held a special school assembly on Tuesday morning to acknowledge its 2024 Academic Awards winners and School Dux.

Academic excellence and effort awards were presented to students who were in Prep to Year 11 in 2024.

Several major awards were presented to former Year 12 students.

Chrystina Byrnes, Mia De Guzman and Karl Schick were congratulated for receiving an ATAR of over 90.

Karl was also presented with a certificate for being the College’s inaugural “Proxime Accessit”.

Principal Carmel O’Brien said this award, runner-up to the Dux, had been awarded because the final scores had been so close.

Mia De Guzman, who was the South Burnett’s 2024 Young Citizen of the Year, was presented with the Dux Shield by local Parish Priest Fr Stanley Orji.

Mia has received an offer to study a Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours) at the University of Queensland.
