Wondai’s 135 Army Cadet Unit opened its doors on Sunday to give young people and their parents a glimpse of life as an army cadet.
The open day was held at the 25/49 RQR Depot in Bramston Street.
Lieutenant (AAC) Andrew Sampson said it had been one of the most successful open days so far, with 15 young people signing up.
This takes the 135 Army Cadet Unit to almost 30 members.
The cadets take part in regular bush camps, learn camouflage techniques, fieldcraft using compasses and maps, first aid and communications.
They are also invited to take part in ceremonial events such as Anzac Day and Australia Day.
On Sunday, they also learned how to build a catapult!
Young people – girls and boys – aged from 13 to 18 can join the Army Cadets.
135 Army Cadet Unit meets every second Sunday from 9:00am to 4:00pm at the Wondai depot.
