Work has begun to build a new helipad at Kingaroy Hospital.
A Darling Downs Health spokesperson said construction was expected to be completed by the end of this year.
Health Service Chief Executive Annette Scott PSM said the new helipad would be a welcome addition.
“As the South Burnett’s major referral hospital, Kingaroy’s helipad is active most days,” Ms Scott said.
“It’s vital we have a helipad that can comfortably accommodate the ever-increasing demand on our services.
“The project will be delivered using a staged approach, allowing the hospital’s day-to-day functions to carry on as usual.”
Acting Executive Director Infrastructure Dave Pugsley said people may have noticed site fencing and demountable buildings associated with the project being set-up over the past few weeks.
“We’ve been working closely with the contractor to ensure there is minimal disruption to hospital services, and throughout all stages of the project, helicopter transfers continue as normal on the campus,” Mr Pugsley said.
Expected to be completed by the end of this year? Seriously, how hard can it be! Must be some super complicated engineering behind a flat pad to land a helicopter on that I don’t know about. I bet there’s a ridiculously big price to go along with the long construction process as well.
