Stanwell Corporation says it is ready to deliver reliable energy this summer to Queenslanders following overhauls at its Tarong and Stanwell power stations.
The government-owned corporation completed the planned maintenance at Unit 2 at Tarong ($53 million) and Unit 2 at Stanwell ($60 million).
Both projects employed about 500 workers each, and boosted the local economies by about $10 million.
CEO Michael O’Rourke said the overhauls were part of Stanwell’s year-round maintenance program.
“We operate two of the most efficient and reliable coal-fired power stations in Australia, the Stanwell Power Station west of Rockhampton, and the Tarong power stations near Kingaroy,” he said.
“From these power stations, we were able to deliver more than 19 terawatt hours of energy last year to the National Electricity Market and provide more than a third of all of Queensland’s power with a reliability factor of more than 99 per cent.
“Our assets are required to have regular maintenance to ensure they are kept in good condition and continue to deliver electricity reliably and safely, including during the hot summer energy-intensive months.
“Our team has worked diligently to ensure that our systems are robust and ready to handle the increased load.”
