Nanango’s 177 Army Cadet Unit held its annual march out parade at Nanango State High School recently to wrap up another year of activities.
Captain (AAC) Jenny Wilson said it was an opportunity to hand out awards to the cadets and showcase to their parents what they had learned over the past 12 months.
It was also an opportunity to farewell Cadet Under Officer Wylie Newton who will be joining the Australian Defence Force in January.
Also in attendance were Nanango RSL Sub-Branch president Chas Kemp and secretary Peter Hancock.
Capt Wilson said the Sub-Branch had been very supportive of the cadet unit, providing small grants to allow them to do various things, including buying gazebos as well as assisting with a cadet trip to Enoggera base in Brisbane.
The march out was followed by a formal dinner on the Saturday night at Nanango RSL Club for all the cadets and unit staff.
Wondai’s 135 Army Cadet Unit also held its end-of-year march out recently with similar celebrations in Wondai.
Both units were also part of an historic event on the Sunshine Coast in November when they joined with cadet units from Yandina, Caloundra and Kilcoy to take part in the first 14 Battalion Ceremonial Parade at Nambour Showgrounds.
Units from across the Battalion came together for the weekend.
Special guest was AAC National Commander Brigadier Ben Slaughter, who reviewed the parade, and AAC Queensland Brigade Commander Colonel Arthur Tsamis.
