Police have confirmed that bones found on a remote property at Booubyjan on Sunday are human.
A police spokesperson said a member of the public located the remains and contacted police.
“A search and recovery is currently ongoing and may continue for several days,” the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson said further forensic testing could take weeks.
Police would not speculate whether the remains could belong to a teenager who went missing in floodwaters near Booubyjan on January 8, 2022.
A large-scale search at the time failed to locate the 14-year-old girl.
