FLASHBACK: Action from a previous 125cc Pairs event at the Kingaroy Motorcycle Speedway track

August 15, 2024

Heavy rain this week has forced the postponement of this weekend’s Under 16s Queensland Championships due to be raced at the Kingaroy Junior Motorcycle Speedway.

The Kingaroy Bees had been planning to host the State championships for the 125cc Solos and Best Pairs on Saturday at their showgrounds track.

However, after track inspections on Wednesday afternoon, the event was cancelled.

“There is far too much water laying, not only on one end of the track but the surrounds as well,” a spokesperson said.

“This won’t allow for machinery in to tend the track.

“With the weather prediction for the next two days being cloudy, it is not looking favourable for the track – with the volume of water – to dry enough to make for safe racing.

“Therefore, we have had to make the extremely difficult decision to cancel the championships for Saturday.

“We hope that everyone understands just how hard making this decision has been as we have put a lot of work into making these championships great for the riders.”

The early decision was also necessary as riders were expected to travel to Kingaroy from New Zealand, NSW and North Queensland to take part.

The Kingaroy Bees are scheduled to hold another major event next month.

They will be hosting the 2024 Australian Under 16s 125cc Individual and 125cc Best Pairs Championships on September 28-29.

No date has been set yet for the rescheduled Queensland Under 16s event.
