A 55-year-old Kilkivan man has died – and another man has been shot by police – during an incident on a property north of Kilkivan on Friday afternoon.

Police were called to the property on Running Creek Road just after 3:00pm after reports of a disturbance.

A police spokesperson said they found a man who had suffered critical stab wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

A second person, a 42-year-old Kilkivan man, was shot by police after he allegedly threatened them with a knife.

He was airlifted to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a critical condition.

The spokesperson said a crime scene had been declared at the address and police investigations were continuing.

This incident is also under investigation by the Ethical Standards Command, subject to oversight by the Crime and Corruption Commission.

UPDATE April 13: Police confirmed on Saturday morning that the two men lived at the Running Creek Road property and were related.

The initial emergency call was to the QAS and a single officer from Kilkivan Police Station attended as a back-up for the paramedics.

Police will allege the officer was confronted by a man holding a knife.

The officer fired, wounding the man in the torso. He was then taken into custody and transported to hospital for treatment.

Police are investigating the death of the older man as a homicide.

Acting Superintendent Paul Algie, District Officer for the Wide Bay Burnett Police District, said it was a shocking incident.

He confirmed that investigations were continuing into the physical capability of the man who died after suggestions he used a wheelchair.

Acting Superintendent Algie said health care workers had been supporting the family but could not confirm if they had made the initial emergency call.

UPDATE April 16: The 55-year-old man who died after allegedly being stabbed has been identified as Paul Mann.

The man shot by a police officer has been identified as Mr Mann’s 42-year-old nephew, James Neale.
